Introduction
We have several sections, all catering for both boys and girls of varying ages. These are:
Cub Scouts: 7¾ to 10½ or 11 years
Scouts: 10½ or 11 to 14 years
As a group we enjoy some fantastic facilities. Not only do we have a large Head Quarters, known as Fancourt Hall, in Cunliffe Road in Stoneleigh, Surrey, but we also have a well equipped boathouse in Thames Ditton. Here the members of our group can canoe, sail, row and handle power-craft. Several of the Scout Leaders hold Royal Yachting Association and British Canoe Union qualifications which allows us to offer training to a very high standard.
The younger sections meet at the HQ throughout the year with occasional meetings elsewhere, whilst the Scouts and Explorers tend to meet at the Boathouse during the summer months.
The Royal Navy "recognise" a list of the top 100 groups nationwide. Once on this list, the groups are subject to annual reviews by Royal Navy Officers to ensure that the prescribed standards are being maintained. Each Royal Navy recognised group is given a number and is also given a name associated with a Royal Navy warship. 1st Cuddington's number is RN 95 and our associated warship is HMS Warspite (incidentally, the RN number bears no relation to the standing of the group compared with others of the recognised 100!). You can read the latest Royal Navy inspection report here.
Aside from the Beaver Colony, all other sections include a summer camp or expedition of at least 1 week duration as part of their annual programme. Other single day and weekend activities also take place during the year.
With our dedicated team of volunteer leaders, many of whom have come through the group, and the excellent facilities available to us, we are able to provide superb training and development opportunities for young people no matter what their natural talents are. From young sportsmen to budding academics the Scout movement can offer so much – and Warspite offer that bit extra!
All this comes at a price however - hence the need to be constantly raising funding so that we can continue to provide these facilities and opportunities to the young people of the area. As a recognised charity we have many ways of doing this such as on-line shopping through many major retailers, you can read more about this and other ways in our Fundraising section.
All our leaders are fully CRB checked & insured and trained to the relevant standards for the activities they supervise.
